Who We Are
We are Dr. Robyn Joppy & Wileen Amy-Scott and together we are the Camp Co-Directors of Saddle Up Harrisburg. As a young African American girl growing up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Dr. Joppy had the opportunity to learn how to ride horses and developed a love and respect for them.
The vision for Saddle Up Harrisburg originated after Robyn & I noticed a lack of minority representation in the Equestrian sector. Additionally, I searched tirelessly to find an instructor for my then 3yr old daughter, Kennedy. In over 2 months of searching, while visiting various locations, not a single owner, instructor, or student who surfaced looked like Kennedy. Representation matters so we set out to make a change.
Our desire is to give children of color an “Experience of a lifetime” which will not only include learning about horses but also learning how to ride them.
We are thankful to be collaborating with
as our Host Farm for this camp season
Our Mission is to broaden the knowledge and scope of Equine education and activity within minority youth
